Title of the Speech: Getting Your Manuscript Published: An Editor's Perspective
Publishing in reputable, peer-reviewed journals is a critical requirement for academics, researchers, and postgraduate students, yet many high-quality studies fail to reach publication due to avoidable shortcomings in manuscript preparation and a limited understanding of editorial expectations. This workshop, Getting Your Manuscript Published: An Editor’s Perspective, offers participants a valuable opportunity to gain direct insight into the scholarly publishing process from the viewpoint of an experienced journal editor. The session will be led by Dr. Carolyn B. Yucha, RN, PhD, Professor and Dean Emeritus of the School of Nursing at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas, and long-standing Editor of Biological Research for Nursing. With more than two decades of editorial experience and an extensive research background funded by the U.S. National Institutes of Health, Dr. Yucha brings a rare depth of knowledge about what editors and reviewers truly look for in submitted manuscripts. During this workshop, participants will explore how editors evaluate submissions from initial screening to final decision, the most common reasons for desk rejection, and practical strategies for improving clarity, scientific rigor, and alignment with a journal’s aims and scope. The session will also address how to structure a strong manuscript, write effective abstracts and discussion sections, and respond constructively to reviewer and editor comments. Particular attention will be given to ethical considerations, publication standards, and best practices that enhance credibility and impact. By bridging the gap between authors and editors, this workshop aims to demystify the publication process and empower participants to approach manuscript submission with greater confidence and strategic insight.
The workshop is especially beneficial for early-career researchers, postgraduate students, and experienced academics seeking to publish in high-quality, Scopus- and Web of Science–indexed journals. Through expert guidance grounded in real editorial experience, participants will gain practical tools and a clearer understanding of how to transform their research into publishable work and successfully navigate today’s competitive academic publishing landscape.
