Ageing in a Changing World: Tackling Global Challenges in Gerontology and Geriatric Health
The global elderly population is growing rapidly and is projected to account for nearly 17% of the total population (approximately 1.6 billion people) by 2050. Currently, over 1 billion individuals aged 60 and above—primarily in low- and middle-income countries—face significant social, economic, and healthcare challenges.
The older adult population of the world continues to grow at an extraordinary rate. According to the new census, this percentage is projected to jump to nearly 17 percent of the world’s population by 2050 (1.6 billion). Already, there are more than 1 billion people aged 60 years or older, with most living in low- and middle-income countries. Similarly, Challenges and issues occur in relation to the increasing older adult population worldwide.
6th International Conference on Gerontology and Geriatrics Medicine 2025 (SilverAge 2025) aims to raise awareness about the challenges that occur due to the speed of population aging and the experience of being old in this contemporary world aligned with the United Nations Decade of Healthy Ageing (2021–2030).
We are delighted to invite researchers, healthcare professionals, policymakers, and students to submit their original research work, review articles, and case studies for presentation at the 6th International Conference on Gerontology and Geriatrics Medicine 2024, to be held on [Insert Date] in Bangkok, Thailand.
The COVID-19 pandemic has clearly exposed the gaps existing in policies, systems and services. Hence SilverAge 2025 aspires to study healthy living practices and healthy aging to promote an Ageless Era while overcoming the challenges in relation to the speed of population ageing.
Geriatrics/Geriatric Medicine and Gerontology were identified to meet the challenges and provide quality care services for older adults. Geriatric Medicine is a specialty of medicine concerned with physical, mental and social conditions in acute, chronic, preventive, rehabilitative, and end-of-life care in elder patients. Gerontology addresses ageing across the life course. It encompasses the social, psychological, cognitive, cultural and biological aspects of the elderly. Gerontology is associated with a multidisciplinary field such as biological, physiological, environmental, psychological, behavioural, and social processes.
The purpose of Gerontology and Geriatric Medicine is not to extend life but to improve its quality and equality by minimizing the impact of age-related diseases and conditions.
